Lisa Emerson joined the NewSouth Books team in 2004 as bookkeeper and continued in that role following the transfer of the publishing company to The University of Georgia Press in 2022. She also continues to serve as the bookkeeper for The NewSouth Bookstore.
Born and raised in Eufaula, Alabama, Lisa enlisted in the U.S. Navy immediately after graduating from high school. She served from 1987 to 1993, traveling throughout the United States before being stationed in Portugal for several years. During her military service, she began her college education through the University of Maryland and later earned a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Chicago in 1992. After additional assignments, she transitioned to the Navy Reserve, where she served until 1995.
Following her military service, Lisa owned and operated her own business until joining the growing independent publisher NewSouth Books in 2004. Over the years, she has remained a valued member of the organization, helping support both NewSouth Books and The NewSouth Bookstore.
Lisa is married and enjoys spending time with her three children and one grandchild.
